Overall Inspiration:
During my vacation trips to the western part of the United States, I became very interested in Native Americans and their rich culture. I attempted to capture various feelings, expressions and moods exhibited by these early Americans as I imagined them to be.

I find our world around us is composed of a multitude of vivid, bright and lively colors. It is my earnest desire for the viewers of these paintings to enjoy the vibrant rich colors which transpose a blank canvas into a lively and compelling image.
I hope these paintings will expand your horizons as they have exploded my desire to create them.

The comfort and warmth of the closeness of a mother is evident in this painting but in the cold western winters, the warm blanket made from the furs of animals caught for food was a true necessity. The Baby sleeps wihout any worries as he snuggles into the warmth of his mother.

This painting "The Chief" embodies the role of the tribal leader as he watches with a keen eye to assure the safety of his people. Listen closely and you just might hear the distant drums in the background.

A young Maiden waits for the return of a brave warrior... however, the sun sets with only the darkness remaining for comfort.

The Trading Post was a favorite gathering place for many tribal Native Americans. A place where they were able to get much needed supplies from other regions. This elder tribesman waits patiently for his vital supplies.

Native Americans relied on the tribes' "Medicine Man" to cure their various ills. This one cooks up a healing mixture of herbs and roots to nourish back to health a sick papoose (baby).

War Dances, campfires and long talks with the youngsters of the tribe, about the days when he was a fearless warrior and protector, now satisfy this Old Chief. He's content to let the young Warriors ride off into the sunset.

In the early days the men rode out in search of animals for food and sometimes, if it was to be a long trip the family also went. Here you'll see the leader of the group followed by an experienced hunter with his wife and child shortly behind. Survival depended on a keen eye and a steady hand when searching for food in the dead cold of winter. Here the family heads home to the warmth of an open fire and a grateful tribe.

Inspiration:

Serenity! Thats what I thought about as I developed this painting. With vivid memories of an early morning ski run with almost no other skiiers stirring yet, I had the opportunity to see this lovely animal in all it's spendor as he enjoyed the natural life which I love so dearly.

People sometimes ask me about the many hues of purple which are so evident in my paintings. My answer to them is that you need to experience this for yourself. Nature provides so many different colors to a rainbow and he does the same thing to a mountain or a brook of water. The problem is that many of us never really stop to see the beauty which surrounds us. I hope you can visualize the beauty thru my eyes.
